Basic Weapon Archetypes:
Plasma Weapons are the most common among all Imperial Forces. They are more expensive then M/A weapons, and require ammunition. However they offer rapid fire, heavy firepower, and are extremely effective against Kinetic Barriers.
Plasma Weapons are available in Pistol, Heavy Pistol, Carbine, Rifle, and Heavy Rifle format.
Laser Weapons are typically specialized types. The most common Laser Weapon in Imperial service is the VLRM (Very Long Range Marksman) System. It is in fact the only 'Sniper Rifle' in Imperial usage. A range of almost 5 miles and extreme damage potential against both infantry, light armor, and equipment more than makes up for the necessity of carrying a Pack Generator Unit (PGU).
Laser Pistols are also beginning to gain acceptance among Imperial soldiers. Once only found in the hands of the most elite units, the wide success of the ShadowWorks 'Cobra' and 'King Cobra' weapons has created a high demand for them in varied quarters. They use rechargeable, internal nuclear battery packs.
Laser Repeaters and Heavy Rifles are also in limited usage.
Photon Weapons are a very new weapon type. Currently only a Carbine using this system is being issued, however prototypes of heavier photon weapons are being tested. Firing bursts of coherent light, they are capable of sustained fire, and are less susceptible to heating issues than plasma weapons. Powered by nuclear battery packs.
Direct Energy Weapons are a particular breed, only being available in Heavy Repeater format. Like Lasers, they require a PGU.
They also ignore Kinetic Barriers like Photon and Laser weapons.
Projectile Weapons range from ballistic rifles and pistols still in Colonial arsenals, to heavy weapon systems like rocket and missile launchers, including the Flak Series.
Melee Weapons are in wide use among Terran forces. Every Imperial soldier is issued a dagger and bayonet with their rifle. Terran Melee weapons are mono-molecular edged, Ceramite blades. Some versions also offer energized blades.
Gauntlets with built in wristblades are standard issue for Marines, while Elite forces issue the same, but in an energized blade format.
Weapon Types:
Pistols:
Pistols fall into three distinct categories, Holdout, Regular, and Heavy.
Holdout pistols are small, concealable weapons, most commonly in Plasma and M/A variations, Laser types are known. Holdout pistols are a recent addition, made popular by the success of the BSA 'Holdout' Series.
Regular pistols are standard sidearms. Typically in Plasma type, however Laser pistols are rapidly becoming common.
Heavy Pistols are larger, heavier versions of pistols. Some, like the KassaFab 'Helios', are simply slightly larger versions of a normal pistol with a larger reaction chamber, allowing a more powerful blast. Others, like the ShadowWorks 'King Cobra', are very different, closer to a small carbine than a pistol and capable of sustained fire.
Rifles:
Rifles fall into two categories, Assault and Heavy.
Assault Rifles in the Empire are almost always Plasma types. Capable of rapid fire, heavy damage output and able to defeat Kinetic Barriers with relative ease.
Laser Rifles are also produced, and are used by certain units. They are restricted in use because of the heavy battery packs necessary to power a rifle sized Laser weapon.
Heavy Rifles:
A compromise between Assault Rifles and Repeaters, they offer better firepower than rifles, while still being smaller and lighter than repeaters. They also do not require a PGU.
Plasma and Laser variations are produced.
Carbines:
Plasma Carbines are smaller than Rifles, yet fire the same projectile type. Trade-offs are made in heat-dissipation, fire rate, and capacity.
Photon Carbines are a special weapon. A new weapon concept, they are similar to Energy Repeaters, yet are able to be fitted into much smaller frames and are far more energy efficient.
Marksman Weapons:
The VLRM is the only current standard issue marksman weapon in Imperial service. Literally a downsized Laser emitter based on the Point Defense Systems that are used on Terran Vessels. They are heavy and require PGUs, but the benefits far outweigh the negatives.
Repeaters:
Directed Energy Repeaters are the most common in Imperial service. Capable of sustained fire, and heavy damage to both infantry and vehicles. They are typically issued to heavy assault troops.
Laser Repeaters are relatively uncommon among Imperial Forces, but are favored by select units. Basically VLRM units in a different format, they share the advantages of long range and superb accuracy.
Heavy Weapons:
The Flak Rifle series is the most prominent of Imperial Heavy Weapons. They are a type of recoilless rifle. Using a mag-lev sled to initially launch the projectile, they can accept a wide range of munitions. After a set distance, the projectile's onboard motor engages. Typically firing Plasma or Infernium rockets, other types of ammunition are available, including tracking rounds for Anti-Air usage, and recently miniature SLAM Projectiles.
Grenades:
Plasma Grenades are the standard issue assault grenade in Imperial usage. They have fuses for either impact, proximity, or timed detonation, and have a blast radius of 5 yards.
Infernium Grenades are the issued anti-armor/anti-structure grenades. Infernium is a compound that is similar to Thermite, but burns 5 times as hot, and is capable of slagging almost any known material. Same fuse types as standard grenades, and a blast radius of 2 yards.
Special Forces Series:
The ShadowWorks Special Forces weapons are a series of new weapons developed for Imperial assault forces. They are all Phase-Three designs integrating the newest weapon improvements, and are also further enhanced by usage of the Na'vi Crystal.
The Special Forces Assault Weapon (SFAW) is a Heavy Weapons System. The base weapon is a ShadowWorks Directed Energy Repeater, and either a downsized VLRM or Flak Rifle component comes standard. Designed to integrate with the 'Titan' Powered Battle Armor series, but is capable of being fitted to a Pack Generator Unit.
The Special Forces Dedicated Marksman Rifle (SFDMR) is an improved VLRM system. A ShadowWorks X-Type improved Laser Emitter along with a larger capaciter and onboard targeting array. Can be connected to 'Titan' PBA, but comes standard with an improved PGU.
The Special Forces Heavy Carbine (SFHC) is an improved Plasma carbine. Larger capacity, built in under-barrel weapon pod capable of holding either a flame-pod or launcher attachment, and assisted targeting scope are standard.
The Special Forces Medium Carbine (SFMC) is an improved Photon Carbine. 20% smaller than the SFHC, and with a battery pack instead of a magazine. Otherwise kitted identically.
